Bio:
Kamisha Smith is a filmmaker and scholar with a background in Africana Studies and History and is currently a 2010-2011 New York Life Fellow at the Colin Powell Center for Policy Studies at the City College of New York (CCNY). She holds a Bachelor's degree from New York University and is pursuing a Masters of Fine Arts in Media Arts Production at CCNY. Kamisha has directed and produced several projects, both fiction and documentary. Her first short Military Promises highlighted military recruitment campaigns in African-American communities and her family's relationship to the U.S. military. Her current film, Talking Drums, deals with cultural preservation and gentrification in Harlem, New York. Kamisha's work has been shown at Anthology Film Archives, the Museum of Modern Art, and the Brooklyn Academy of Music.
